Share house bill splitter
How the bill is split
For the bill's period (e.g. 1 July – 28 September, 90 days) we count the days each person lived in the house. Move-in and move-out days count as full days.
The amount is split in proportion to those days. Someone who lived there all 90 days pays for 90, someone who moved in half-way pays for 45. Supply charges are included in the same proportion, which is the most common way share houses split bills.
Amounts are split in whole cents and any leftover cent goes to the closest share, so the shares always add up exactly to the bill. Choose "Equally" to split evenly between everyone who lived there at least one day of the period.
Frequently asked questions
How much should someone who moved in part-way pay?
Usually only for the days they actually lived there during the billing period. That is what this calculator does by default (split by days lived).
Are supply charges split by days too?
Most share houses don't separate supply and usage charges and split the whole bill the same way. If your house agreed otherwise, add the supply charge as a separate 'Other' bill and split it equally.
What if the bill covers several months?
Just enter the billing (supply) period printed on the bill. A quarterly bill can be split in one go.
What is inside the share link?
The names, dates and amounts are stored in the link itself. Nothing is saved on a server and only people you send the link to can see it. You can use nicknames instead of real names.
Can I split rent or the bond too?
This calculator is made for costs shared by days lived. Anything split by days, like weekly rent, can be entered as an 'Other' bill and split the same way.
